Four Chicago-area high schools came together to discuss the importance of building character ethic for individual leadership
On April 25, Siegfried Youth Leadership Program® (SYLP) hosted its first multi-school event in Chicago, IL at Roosevelt University. Nearly 150 students from Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, Gage Park High School, Sullivan High School, and Amundsen High School were in attendance, alongside their teachers and mentors. Topics included understanding the character ethic traits that lead to success and leveraging your personal strengths to achieve your dreams.
Throughout the day, students participated in thoughtful group activities, utilized active listening techniques to hear the stories of their peers, and reflected on their lives, dreams, and meaningful experiences. Guest speaker Dave Raymond, the original Phillie Phanatic turned entrepreneur, inspired attendees to identify their strengths and discussed how the skills they have now can propel their bigger futures.
“What they do well in school reflects skillsets they have naturally,” explained Raymond. “They need to sharpen these skillsets today so that when they get out of school, they’re really firing up their individual leadership.”
SYLP is a unique leadership development opportunity for students in grades 8 through 12 with the higher purpose of inspiring transformational growth. As part of the program, the SYLP team hosts events where students focus on developing the qualities they need to start, or continue, their journey toward becoming strong individual leaders and building a successful future.
